GNGL Screenplay receives Literary Award

George Clooney and Grant Heslov to be honored for the Screenplay, Good Night and Good Luck at the 2006 PEN USA Literary Awards.

Good Night and Good Luck
(Section 8/Warner Independent Pictures)

When the panel decided on Good Night, and Good Luck it was a difficult decision to make because we each felt that all the submissions had excellent merit to them; however, the most insightful of the comments made about the script was written by Michael Sragow when he said, “The Hollenbeck suicide lingers in the air not just as a personal tragedy but also as a reflection of the failure of the newsroom esprit that the rest of the movie celebrates. Also, Clooney and Heslov cleverly intersperse a questioning of the import of Murrow’s triumph from the beginning to the end. The result is both rousing and cautionary; a tough trick, but they pull it off.” Michael’s comment captured the feeling the panel as a whole had about the script and as a panel, we would like to commend both George Clooney and Grant Heslov on writing a script that not only cogently presented Murrow in all his heroism, but that in its own way admonished the journalists of the future, which is today, not to abandon their raison d’être.  That is, of enlightening the public to the truth.

AMCTV has set up a small site show casing the upcoming airing of "George Clooney: An American Cinematheque Tribute" It contains sneak peeks, biography, tidbits and weigh in section on some of George's project. Also you can view several videos on George provided by AMC here

The eyes…the voice…the wolf-in-gentleman’s-clothing …it’s like someone fused Cary Grant, Clark Gable and Dennis the Menace, and set him loose in Hollywood.  Whether he’s playing a charming rogue (ER, Out of Sight, Oceans’ Eleven), a man’s man (The Perfect Storm, Three Kings) or a winning buffoon (O Brother, Where Art Thou, Intolerable Cruelty), Clooney is clearly one of the most versatile and respected talents in the entertainment industry. Watch as his achievements are celebrated (and playfully roasted) by friends and colleagues including Matt Damon, Salma Hayek, Morgan Freeman, Drew Barrymore, Don Cheadle, Danny DeVito, Bonnie Hunt, Richard Kind, Julianna Margulies, Noah Wyle, Ellen Barkin and Julia Roberts.  See the stars come out to honor Clooney on Sunday, December 13, 2006 @ 8PM ET | 7C, with a special encore presentation at 11:15PM | 10:15C.

George Clooney laughs it up as he gets recognized for his work on and off screen! GEORGE CLOONEY was in New York City as he was honored Wednesday night with the WALTER CRONKITE Faith and Freedom Award in conjunction with the Interfaith Alliance.  Despite receiving the enviable honor, George couldn't resist getting in a few jokes. "I don't care for Walter Cronkite," he muses. "And I don't know why he's so trusted!" The nearly 90-year-old newsman Cronkite presented the award to the Oscar winner, who was recognized for his socially conscious ways as well as his leadership in the film industry.  (ET Online)

"Basically, a bunch of your friends roast the hell out of you," said George Clooney, 45, about he awards bash at which he was honored on Oct. 13. No doubt, the highlight was accepting his trophy from his elated Ocean's Eleven co-star Julia Roberts, 38!

George: ‘They’re coming after me!’

With “George 2008” T-shirts all the rage in Hollywood, is there any chance George Clooney might run for office? “There are too many compromises,” George told OK! Oct. 13 at the 21st Annual American Cinematheque Award banquet in Beverly Hills, where he was being honored. “I enjoy the other side of it... I can go in and say, ‘I think this is bad, what’s going on in Sudan and Chad and Darfur,’ and there is no one I have to answer to.”  And what about those famous friends who came out to honor him? “They’re coming after me!” he told OK!. “Honestly, I don’t like them — not one of them! Matt Damon? Don’t like him! Julia Roberts? No! She drinks a lot, and I caught her stealing! I don’t like my parents either!”  But one person who didn’t have such a fun night was Lindsay Lohan, who, while at the ceremony, was served a subpoena for a lawsuit involving her mom.   (OK! Online)

From Julia to the ER Docs. Pals come out to toast - and Roast! - George Clooney

With friends like these, George Clooney isn't likely to let great looks, millions of dollars and an Italian villa go to his head. Honored with the American Cinematheque Award for his film work Oct. 13, he was roasted by pals Ellen Barkin, who jokingly claimed she'd hooked up with him while filming the upcoming Ocean's Thirteen, and Bonnie Hunt, who praised his "genius work in Return of the Killer Tomatoes!" Longtime friend Julia Roberts took a sweeter tack, explaining that before she wed husband Danny Moder, Clooney was "the best man I thought I ever knew."

Clooney took it all in stride. And just because he's the toast of the town, that doesn't mean he's out of dreams. "I still want to do a musical!" he joked to PEOPLE. "They cut my voice out of [2000's] O Brother, Where Art Thou? I was hurt!"  (Thanks Sammie323)

The Hollywood Reporter; Clooney nod comes with ribs
ANNE THOMPSON

``Thank you very much for this,'' said George Clooney, never one to take himself too seriously, after accepting his 2006 American Cinematheque Award from a blond and beaming Julia Roberts. ``Thanks for beating the hell out of me.''

Actually, of all those gathering to pay tribute to Clooney, Roberts was relatively kind when she said, ``You are, before I met my husband, about the best man I have ever known. You're just one helluva guy. We're here to put our hands together and be honored that this world has this man in it.''
